Prosecutor: Kearny High School student, 17, charged with criminal sexual contact against student

A 17-year-old Kearny High School student was charged with criminal sexual assault against a female student twice during the current scholastic year, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Authorities were first notified of the offenses on Tuesday, January 18th and the HCPO Special Victims Unit immediately opened its investigation, Suarez said in a statement.

The 17-year-old has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact. He was taken into custody at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City yesterday and released to a legal guardian pending his first court appearance.

Suarez credited the Special Victims Unit with the investigation. Anyone wishing to report a sex crime should call the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) at 201-915-1234.
