Nicholas Ortiz, 38, of Jersey City, is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and tampering with physical evidence, Suarez said in a statement.

He was arrested in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street in Jersey City and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on September 21st, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan in the area of Broadway and Wright Avenue.

Responding officers located the motorcycle operator, a 14-year-old juvenile male, with a serious injury to a lower extremity.

The sedan involved, later identified as a Lexus IS operated by Ortiz, did not remain at the scene, authorities said.
