A Bayonne man has been charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a motel on Tonnelle Avenue earlier this month, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced.

Yesterday at approximately 7:20 p.m., members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s
Office Special Victims Unit arrested Xavier Patten, 21, of Bayonne, without incident at the
prosecutor’s office in Jersey City, Suarez said in a statement.
Patten was arrested following an investigation into the reported sexual assault of a 15-year-old female victim from Bayonne which allegedly took place at a motel on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City on July 7th, authorities said.
Patten has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of Endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.
Following his arrest, Patten was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in
Kearny pending his first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.
Additionally, a hearing is scheduled for Friday, July 19, 2019. Suarez also credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the investigation and arrest.
