Prosecutor: 5 juveniles involved in altercation prior to fatal Union City stabbing, 3 arrested

Preliminary findings from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office indicate that five juveniles involved in an altercation prior to a fatal Union City stabbing, three of whom have been arrested.

A boy, 16, of Union City, is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon (knife), possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a weapon while committing a controlled dangerous substance offense, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Additionally, a boy and a girl, both 15 and of Jersey City, are charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon (baseball bat), and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

On Tuesday December 20th at approximately 6:24 p.m., the Union City Police Department was notified of a stabbing in the area of 40th Street and New York Avenue.

Responding officers located two juvenile boys in the area of 40th Street and Bergenline Avenue each with an apparent stab wound.

Allen Flores, 15, of Union City, was transported to Christ Hospital in Jersey City and was pronounced dead at 7:08 p.m. A second juvenile, a 16-year-old Union City boy, remains hospitalized at Jersey City Medical Center with serious injuries.

This was the first homicide of the year recorded in Union City.

Juvenile matters are confidential and no additional information can be released at this time, while additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.

The HCPO Homicide Unit and the Union City PD are actively investigating this case.
