Carolyn Reyes, 27, of Jersey City, was charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Reyes was taken into custody at around 12:52 a.m. this morning from Rite Aid, located at 1097 Broadway. Officers initially responded there on a report of a customer dispute.

Upon arrival, the manager advised them that he requested Reyes to leave the store, but she refused. Officers then met with Reyes, who was behaving and speaking irrationally, and escorted her out of the store.

While waiting outside with Reyes for a ride-share to drive her home, Reyes suddenly began assaulting an officer by punching him in the face – causing injuries.

As a result, she was immediately placed under arrest by another officer on scene, police said.
