Police: Maryland man busted with driving vehicle stolen out of home state in Bayonne

A Maryland man was busted with driving a vehicle stolen out of his home state in Bayonne on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Charles D. Smith, 29, of Landover, Maryland, was charged with receiving stolen property and hindering apprehension, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Smith was taken into custody at approximately 7:45 a.m. from the area of 43rd Street and Avenue E after being found to be in possession of a vehicle reported stolen out of Maryland.

During the investigation, Smith provided false pedigree information to the officers in attempt to hinder his apprehension and he was charged accordingly, police said.
