Police: Jitney bus owned by Jersey City company, driver hit with $41k in fines

A New York jitney bus driver, who works for a Jersey City bus company, was cited for $41,154 in unpaid fees and tolls outside the Lincoln Tunnel entrance in Weehawken, police said.

Jose Beard, 42, of New York, New York, was charged with theft and theft of service, according got Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

At around 8:40 a.m. at the Lincoln Tunnel entrance in Weehawken, Port Authority police stopped a white 2004 Chevrolet Bus is registered to Abw Transportation in Jersey City, officials said.

The vehicle owed $36,236, $12,236.00 in tolls and $24,000.00 in fees, related to 481 violations, based on EZ Pass records.

Additionally, Beard owed $4,918.00, $1,618 in tolls and $3,300 in fees, related to 66 violations, authorities said. Bead was arrested for the infractions and the bus was impounded.
