Police: Jersey City man charged with 5 criminal sexual contact incidents in Bayonne

A Jersey City man has been charged with five criminal sexual contact incidents in Bayonne dating back November 22nd, 2019, Police Capt. Eric Amato said.

On Thursday, August 10th, the Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau arrested Bryan Christopher Poinson, 40, of Jersey City as a result of an investigation into several reported acts of criminal sexual contact dating as far back as November 22nd, 2019.

On that date at approximately at 2:15 p.m., a 53-year-old female victim from Bayonne reported that she was assaulted.

According to the victim, while walking southbound on Avenue E in the area of 33rd Street, an unknown man ran up to her from behind, wrapped his arms around her midsection and thrusted against her as he simulated a sexual act.

After she was able to break free from his grasp, the man fled on foot before entering a vehicle and leaving the scene.

On April 9th, 2022, at roughly 1:10 p.m., a 36-year-old female victim, of Bayonne, reported that an unknown man approached her from behind as she was walking in the area of West 19th Street.

While behind her, he proceeded to grab hold of her and rub his genital area against her before fleeing on foot.

On April 4th, 2023, at about 12:49 p.m., a 60-year-old female victim, of Bayonne, reported that an unknown man approached her from behind as she was walking in the area of West 55th Street.

The man proceeded to grab hold of her hips and press his genitals against her before fleeing.

Then, on April 15th, 2023,, a 46-year-old female victim, of Jersey City, reported that a male entered her place of employment at approximately 10:28 a.m. and approached her.

As she positioned her body to allow him to pass behind her, the man grabbed her by her waist and pulled her against him before ultimately fleeing the store.

On July 13th, 2023, a 36-year-old female victim, of Bayonne, reported that she, too, was assaulted.

The victim stated that as she attempted to enter a store in the area of 52nd Street and Broadway at approximately 6:30 p.m., an unknown man assisted her with carrying her baby stroller through the doorway.

After assisting her, he proceeded to touch her buttocks with his hand, causing the victim to scream in fear and flee the store with child. The man ultimately fled the store toward Jersey City.

The Bayonne Police Department Detective Bureau initiated a lengthy and detailed investigation into the reported incidents which resulted in Poinson being identified as the actor of all the aforementioned incidents.

Finally, on August 10th, at about 8:30 a.m., detectives responded to Poinson’s residence on East Bidwell Avenue, Jersey City, placed him under arrest and charged him with five counts of criminal sexual contact, Amato stated.
