Sean P. Olson, 35, of Bayonne, was charged with DUI and assault by auto, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Olson was taken into custody at approximately 12:11 a.m. on Tuesday from the area of West 3rd Street. Officers responded to the area on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a driver possibly under the influence.

As officers arrived on scene, they observed a vehicle, later determined to be operated by Olson, crashed into a parked vehicle and actively attempting to break free by engaging the accelerator.

As officers approached, Olson’s vehicle broke free from the parked vehicle and struck the officers. One officer suffered a back injury and was treated at a local hospital.

Additionally, Olson was also issued numerous summonses for motor vehicle violations, authorities said.
