Police: Bayonne man charged with approaching children play fighting with a machete

A Bayonne man was charged with approaching children playing on his block with a machete in order to get them to leave last night, police said.

Jude Sanon, 48, of Bayonne, was charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

Sanon was taken into custody at about 6:39 p.m. from the area of Chase Court. Officers responded to the area on a report of a man in possession of a machete. U

pon arrival, officers were met by Sanon and three juvenile victims, all of whom resided in the area. According to the victims, while play fighting amongst each other, Sanon approached them while holding a machete at his side and ordered them to get off his block.

As a result, the mother of one of the victims called the police. The on-scene investigation led to Sanon being positively identified as the aggressor and he was subsequently taken into custody.

The machete was also recovered and confiscated as evidence, authorities said.
