Frank Gonzalez, 41, of Bayonne, was charged with theft from a person, according to Police Capt. Eric Amato.

He was taken into custody at about 10:55 hours a.m. from the area of 25th Street and Avenue C after being identified as the actor of a theft reported on September 10th.

On that date, officers responded to ShopRite, located at 583 Avenue C, on a report of a theft.

According to the 19-year-old victim, after dropping a female friend off at 25th Street and Avenue C, he was approached by a man, later identified as Gonzalez, who stated that he was the woman’s father.

Angry at the victim for taking his daughter out, Gonzalez demanded that the victim give him his wallet. Out of fear, the victim complied and Gonzalez left the area. The wallet contained the victim’s identification, several bank cards, an insurance card, and $50 cash.

An investigation was initiated by the Bayonne Police Detective Bureau which resulted in Gonzalez being identified as the aggressor.

On October 3rd, Gonzalez agreed to turn the wallet over to the detectives and met with them at 25th Street and Avenue C where the wallet was recovered and Gonzalez was taken into custody, police said.
