Witnesses told police that they saw the man being struck by the SUV when the vehicle was turning onto Park Avenue off of 14th Street, according to Police Det. Sgt. Edgardo Cruz.

The Hoboken Fire Department, Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance and Hudson County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene, where the fire department was able to get the victim out from underneath the SUV by using air bags to lift the vehicle off the ground, officials said.

The victim was then transported to the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health for treatment, where he is “alert” as the hospital runs tests on him, authorities said.

The Hoboken Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is conducting further investigation and no further information is currently available.
