“Housing is the number one issue I hear about from families in every neighborhood — from seniors struggling with rising rents to young people priced out of their hometown,” O’Dea said in a statement.
“Jersey City cannot continue down a path where luxury development comes at the expense of working families. I look forward to engaging residents at this Town Hall, hearing their concerns, and sharing how we can make housing affordable and accessible for all.”
At the event, the veteran commissioner and former Ward B councilman will outline his comprehensive plan to protect renters, preserve existing affordable units, and hold developers accountable for delivering the housing our community desperately needs.
O’Dea’s affordable housing platform includes expanding and enforcing rent control, preserving naturally occurring affordable units, requiring developers to build more affordable units in new projects, and providing support to first-time homebuyers and longtime renters alike.
The non-partisan November 4th mayoral contest is a crowded field to succeed incumbent Steven Fulop, who ran for governor instead of seeking a fourth term.
Other declared candidates include Ward E Councilman James Solomon, former Gov. Jim McGreevey, ex-Board of Education President Mussab Ali, Council President Joyce Watterman, and Police Officer Christina Freeman.
