Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea (D-2) is continuing to bring the fight to mayoral opponent Jim McGreevey, calling him a corrupt, disgraced politician in his latest TV and digital ad.

“Before we choose our next Mayor, Jersey City voters deserve to meet the real Jim McGreevey and to understand the full breadth of his long history of fiscal mismanagement, tax increases and gaming the system for his own benefit,” O’Dea said in a statement.

“McGreevey can try to rewrite history all he wants, but the facts are the facts and the more Jersey City voters learn about his record, the more committed they are to making sure that he’s not our next Mayor.”

The ad, titled “The Real Jim McGreevey,” highlights that he stepped down as governor after it was revealed that the man he put in charge of homeland security for the state was his boyfriend.

There is also mention of McGreevey’s former top donor Charles Kushner, now President Donald Trump’s (R) ambassador to France, pleading guilty to making illegal tax contributions, witness tampering, and filing false tax returns.

Furthermore, O’Dea’s campaign message says McGreevey back the highest income and sales taxes in state history and got lifetime health benefits for working at the county jail for four months.

O’Dea this week asked for him to reimburse taxpayers and relinquish the benefits going forward, as HCV first reported.

Finally, the ad ends by saying that McGreevey was fired as executive director of the now defunct Jersey City Employment and Training Program (JCETP) for allegedly mismanaging funds.

McGreevey and his campaign did not return an email seeking comment Friday morning.

  1. Everybody deserves a second chance. Your past sins should not disqualify you from participating so long as you have made amends and your heart is in the right place. Maybe McGreevey sincerely wants to do good ,and if he does, then why shouldn’t he be given the chance.

  2. Oh please O’Dea. The Hudson County machine shouldn’t be throwing stones. I’ve already voted for McGreevey by mail-in ballot. He’s the only one talking logically.
