A North Bergen woman drowned during an evening swim in Monmouth County’s Sandy Hook Bay over the weekend, officials said.

The body of Melissa Fries, 37, of North Bergen, was discovered around 6 a.m. Sunday morning in a joint effort that involved police, firefighters, a search helicopter, the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to multiple media reports.
The group of friends she was with called 911 around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday and the incident is being investigated as an accidental death, authorities said.
The investigation into Fries death currently remains ongoing.
