“I am honored to join the North Bergen Board of Education and to continue the important work of supporting our students and schools,” Hector said in a statement.
“I look forward to working with my fellow board members, educators, and families to ensure every child in North Bergen has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.”
She has been a North Bergen resident for 34 years and is the mother of four children and grandmother to one grandson.
Hector is self-employed and serves as a real estate manager, with extensive experience in budgeting, financial planning, and decision-making. She is also fluent in English ad Spanish.
Her husband, Tony Hector, is a former North Bergen BOE trustee who served for over a decade. He also lost a bid for state Assembly in the 33rd Legislative District last year.
“Lorgia Hector brings a wealth of professional experience and a strong commitment to the success of our students,” added North Bergen Superintendent of Schools Dr. George Solter.
“Her knowledge of finance, leadership skills, and dedication to education will make her a valuable addition to the Board as we continue to advance learning opportunities for all North Bergen students.”
Diaz, who passed away at the age of 85 on December 12th, served on the North Bergen Board of Education for more than 20 years and was board president in his final year.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Diaz was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who worked for more than 30 years at the United Nations in New York, where he served as an editor and translator.
“The passing of Luis Diaz was a profound loss for our community. His wisdom, compassion, and tireless advocacy helped shape the future of our schools, and we are deeply grateful for the legacy of service he leaves behind,” explained North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco.
“Lorgia’s dedication to North Bergen, along with her strong financial and leadership skills, make her an excellent choice to continue the important work of the Board. I am confident she will serve our students and families with the same integrity, commitment, and care that Luis demonstrated for over two decades.”
