Police Chief Robert Dowd led the ceremony, which started off by honoring past fallen township officers with a moment of silence.

Local officials including District 8 Freeholder Anthony Vainieri, Commissioners Alan Pascual, Frank Gargiulo and Hugo Cabrera, as well as Board of Education President Julio Marenco and Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, all applauded the efforts of the North Bergen police department.

Several officers also saw their hard work in the field honored, such as the three officers who managed to improbably bring a drowning two-year-old infant back to life.

Finally, Mayor Nick Sacco and Dowd each acknowledged the support they receive from one another to help keep the streets safe in North Bergen.
