A man died after jumping into the Hudson River from Pier C in Hoboken and “life saving efforts were unsuccessful,” authorities said.

“UPDATE: @HobokenPD, @HobokenFire, @Hoboken_EMS, @NYPDnews Harbor Ptl, @uscoastguard, & HudReg Fire Marine responded to man who voluntarily entered the #HudsonRiver at 4:09,” the Hoboken Police Department tweeted at 5:39 p.m.
“Body recovered just after 5. Life saving efforts were unsuccessful. No more info until family is notified.”
As of 7:30 p.m., law enforcement sources, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, indicated that the next of kin had still not been notified.
A prior tweet from the Hoboken PD indicated that police and firefighters were on the scene near Pier C with the NYPD Harbor Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard after reports of a man jumping in the Hudson River.
