In a letter to the editor, former Jersey City acting mayor, board of education trustee, and Hudson County Freeholder Marilyn Roman expresses the importance of voting in next year’s midterm elections.
Dear Editor,
14 months from now our country will be voting in the federal midterm elections. In the past, the midterms have often been elections many Americans have passed over without voting.
Unfortunately we are now in a period in our history when all Americans have to make a special effort to make voting our number one priority.
Never before have the midterms been more important because whatever party wins control of the majority of the House of Representatives and the Senate will determine whether we will be able to maintain our Democracy and continue to live free in a country where we can vote for our leaders.
The polls have already shown that the majority of our electorate does not approve of what our current president is doing to change our Democracy into an Autocracy.
Donald Trump and his sycophants will continue to dismantle our institutions and if he is successful this will be the beginning of the end of what has been the greatest country the world has ever known to one led by a group of greedy grifters only caring for themselves.
Please don’t wait until 13 months from now to turn your attention to the candidates who deserve your vote in the midterms. Do a little research about New Jersey’s representatives in the House who have voted for Donald Trump’s “big beautiful (ugly)bill” and what NJ Federal House members voted for that gave our tax dollars to the very wealthy.
They also voted to increase and place tariffs (taxes) on all of us to make it more difficult for us to live and pay for necessities for our families.
When you find out who these people are who did this and a lot more, let your friends know what they are doing to us and ask them to vote them out of office. By doing so we will be voting for legislators who will help us keep our Democracy.
While many people have now become aware of what is happening, so many of us seem confused as to what we can do to rescue our nation.
While watching TV news recently I heard a guest who was being interviewed quote an old proverb which seems relevant to what is now going on in our country.
It says. “When you pray, pray with your feet” In other words, get up and do something after you pray.
So do your homework and on the day of the midterms, if you love this big beautiful country of ours, move your feet to go to the polls and use the privilege given to us by our forefathers and VOTE!!!
It’s our country and we, the people, should be the ones who decide how we should be governed. It should not be the billionaire class. God bless America and its people.

Thanks Ms.Roman for your spot-on observations. In WNY, there are some good Republicans who at least privately acknowledge the obvious about President Trump’s dangerous overreaching in areas of imposing tariffs that is the purview of Congress; violating the posse cometatis law in deploying the military as law enforcement, and in suspending due process when prorating and deporting suspected on documented individuals without trial, etc. ONLY BECAUSE TEXAS PULLED THE TRIGGER on a NAKED POWER GRAB AND EFFECTIVE DESOLUTION OF DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSIONAL VOTING POWER by weakening five democratic leaning districts toward Republican leaning districts, is the reason California is fast-tracking the same to off-set the Trump/Texas power grab. Shame on Arrango, Valdes, and Miquelli in WNY for NOT calling out our would-be fascist President Trump on these issues. All three railed against prices under President Biden, but remain mum on calling out President Trump. These three in WNY, sadly put their Republican Party ( hijacked by Trump) ahead of THE DEFENSE OF OUR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC.
