LETTER: LD-31 Assembly-elect McKnight reacts to recent Jersey City murders

2

In a letter to the editor, District 31 Assembly-elect Angela McKnight reacts to the recent “heinous acts of violence in Jersey City” that includes three fatal shootings in the past six days.

Angela McKnight

It is unfortunate we’ve experienced such heinous acts of violence in Jersey City. I do give my sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues to come up with a solution to this devastating problem.

I will be contacting my colleagues Nicholas Chiaravalloti, Assemblymen Charles Mainor and Jason O’Donnell and Senator Sandra Bolden Cunningham to strategize on ways to combat this violence on a state level.

I will also be requesting a meeting with Mayor Fulop, Public Safety Director Shea and other local elected officials to do the same at the municipal and county level.

I am also committed to sitting down with the community to hear your concerns and ideas for creating a safer environment for us all.

When I am sworn in on January 12, 2016, to serve the good people of the 31st District, I will have even more tools to better serve the community.

May God bless the 31st District and the state of the New Jersey!

Yours in service,

Angela V. McKnight

  1. J.C. has no loitering laws simple solution:
ie. if a group of ppl are hanging out in front if bussiness why can’t Cops stop & search them. Remove the Weapons 9 out 10 times chances are one of them has a Gun, arrest or not it will remove the weapons!! As a Ward F resident I am wondering if we need a seperate Mayor. It is proven we do not receive the same attention as “Downtown Jersey City”. The harm & destruction these killings bring to a family are devestating … We as a Community Must Stand Together..
May God Bless us with a Miracle….
