In a letter to the editor, Lisa Russo, the wife of Hoboken 3rd Ward Councilman Mike Russo, responds to Peter Jabbour, the husband of Councilwoman at-Large Emily Jabbour.

Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to the letter from Peter Jabbour. While I admire his efforts to come to his wife’s defense, his response fails to take responsibility for the type of campaign that he and his wife are funding.
Do he and Emily Jabbour honestly think that stuffing mailboxes and bombarding cable television channels with personal attack ads doesn’t affect my family, particularly my children?
Unfortunately, it does, and it sets a horrible example for all the children in our community.
Just yesterday, she even shared a letter on her social media platforms from one of her supporters that criticized my deceased father-in-law.
This is an about face from the same Emily Jabbour who sat teary eyed at his funeral.
Unfortunately, she is comfortable putting her political ambitions above friendship and decency.
Before Michael announced his candidacy, we too had a long conversation about the type of campaign he planned to run. First and foremost, he is running a campaign that our four kids will be proud of in the years to come.
It is positive, substantive, and outlines detailed plans to solve the problems that Hoboken is facing. He is fighting to keep Hoboken affordable so that every family has the opportunity to raise their children here, just like we are blessed to be doing.
Most importantly, Michael is uniting our community. He is creating a common purpose that is bringing people together to move Hoboken forward.
Even though he is a lifelong Democrat, he will represent all the people of Hoboken, Democrats, Republicans, and those who don’t even vote, because they are disappointed by negative campaigns, just like the one his opponent is running.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Russo
