“From day one, this administration has been committed to delivering a city government that actually works for the residents of Jersey City—and that starts with getting the basics right. I am grateful to Director Kierce for his leadership during this transition and for his continued service protecting our city as Director of Emergency Management,” Mayor James Solomon said in a statement.

“Now, we are searching for a forward-thinking leader who understands both the nuts and bolts of keeping a city running and how to modernize outdated systems to better support the hardworking men and women who keep Jersey City clean and operational every single day.”

The ideal candidate will bring experience in large-scale municipal or public works operations, demonstrated success in implementing operational improvements, and a commitment to supporting frontline workers, according to the mayor’s office.

The city is particularly interested in candidates with experience in systems modernization and data-driven service delivery.

Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter to join.solomon.transition@gmail.com or on the Jersey City Jobs portal.

Kierce became the acting DPW director in September 2016, as HCV first reported, and has served as the department chief ever since.

Solomon and his administration have taken heat for subpar snow removal efforts, which Kierce attributed to the most snow in a decade and a rock salt shortage.

Targeted ice and snow removal efforts for main city streets began over the weekend and will continue through at least Wednesday.
