The Kearny Board of Education (BOE) held their first strategic plan meeting, called “Accelerating Achievement, Building the Future,” last week, focusing on student success, community engagement, and future development of the schools.

The New Jersey School Boards Association facilitated the session, encouraging those in attendance to give feedback to each section of the plan individually.
“We are so grateful to our community for sharing in this commitment to building a strong future for Kearny schools,” Superintendent of Schools Flora Encarnacao said in a statement.
“Consistent feedback is an important part of the planning process and ensures we can develop the best plan possible for our schools. This roadmap to the future helps us establish our goals and ensures that our shared vision for Kearny students remains at the heart of everything we do.”
During the brainstorming portion of the evening, attendees identified key themes and opportunities. Discussions centered on the district’s facilities and programming plans to accommodate a growing student population.
Participants highlighted the importance of teacher recruitment and retention in an increasingly competitive staffing environment, alongside the need for more faculty parking.
Other topics included finding a healthy balance for technology usage in the classroom and strengthening the home-school relationship through increased parent engagement and partnership opportunities.
Based on these meetings, the BOE, along with the administration will use the community feedback to form an action plan that explored potential priorities such as Artificial Intelligence, expanded career pathways, and enhancing mental health resources.
A major focus includes the proposed transition of Lincoln Middle School to a Grades 6-8 model to address enrollment needs through fiscally responsible facility solutions.

Parents, staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend the next planning session on Thursday, May 7th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Middle School.
The third and final session will take place on Thursday, June 4th, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
