The tower portion at the Hudson and Manhattan Railroad Powerhouse building has developed visible structural cracks, he said. According to Styer, they are believed to be caused by vibrations from the light rail operating beneath the structure.

In response, a contractor installed vertical stabilization straps along the exterior to secure the building. However, he said that some of these straps now appear to be loosening, creating potentially unsafe conditions, particularly amid cold temperatures and high winds.

As a precaution, Greene Street is shut down at Bay Street and has been designated a potential collapse zone, Styer added. Additionally, all southbound traffic is being rerouted onto Bay Street.

The Jersey City Office of Emergency Management is on scene and will conduct an aerial drone assessment to further evaluate the structural integrity of the building and the closure will remain in effect until the contractor fully secures the building.

  1. Dan, you disappointing me. Do not buy what crooks at city hall tell you.
JC and most cities have its own deep state. Mayors go, deep state crooks stay the same.

These cracks are there for the past 40 years at least. Straps alone 20 years. These straps are to hold cargo in place on a bed of a truck, not the building. Then, these were exposed to UV and frost and deteriorated within a year.

Then, almost all of this area is back filled tidal bay with water table some 3 feet below.

I have a shocker for you, Dan: 50 JSQ above JSQ Lounge. If you think powerhouse straps are a joke, stop by and take a look at recently installed brackets there.

And on the way you may want to stop by Christ hospital on Hoboken Ave side (below cliff).

All reported, and records were falsified by building inspector.
