According to Garriga, the organization was founded to help develop Democratic leaders and introduce them to local politics.

“The organization aims to achieve this by various skills and industry based workshops, career opportunities, internships, and social events. Every elected official gave advice and offered to help out anyway they can,” he told HCV.

“We also honored and gave a plaque to both Commissioner Bill O’Dea as Godfather of JCYD, and [Jersey City Democratic Organization Chair] Barbara Stamato as Godmother for their initial and continued support of The Jersey City Young Democrats.”

Others who attended the event included Assemblyman Raj Mukherji (D-31), Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (D-31), Jersey City Councilwomen Joyce Watterman, Mira Prinz-Arey, and Denise Ridley, as well as Jersey City Councilmen Yousef Saleh and James Solomon.

Additionally, the JCYD selected Maurice DeStefano as their sergeant-at-arms and parliamentarian.
