“I am immensely excited and humbled to be award the scholarship. It’s a privilege to be able to go to China and learn from world leaders. The selection process involved over 4500 candidates down to a cohort of 145 this year,” Singh told HCV.

“I spent my formative years in Jersey City, from second grade in PS 23 on. I attended McNair Academic and graduated as valedictorian of my class before attending Columbia University … It’s been a point of pride for me to be from such a diverse home, especially in Jersey City where people look out for each other regardless of differences.”

The program, which enrolled their first class in 2016, is offered to the best and brightest students worldwide at Tsinghua University in Beijing – where students participate in a one-year master’s program.

Jersey City Board of Education Trustee Mussab Ali was a part of last year’s Schwarzman class.
