Jersey City man gets 18-year sentence for 2022 fatal stabbing at light rail station

A Jersey City man received an 18-year prison sentence for a 2022 fatal stabbing at a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station in the city, authorities said.

On Friday, Hudson County Superior Court Judge Nesle Rodriguez sentenced a Jersey City man to 18 years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in a fatal stabbing that occurred at a Light Rail station in 2022.

Anthony Bell, 40, of Jersey City, pled guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter on September 18th, 2024. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, which means 85 percent of his sentece must be served before becoming eligible for parole.

The State was represented in this matter by Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Ghezzar.

On Friday, January 28th, 2022, at approximately 11:37 p.m., police were notified of an injured person on the platform of the Danforth Avenue Light Rail Station.

Responding officers found a male – later identified as Kenneth Brown, 49, of Jersey City – with an apparent stab wound to his upper body.

He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:34 a.m. on Saturday, January 29th, 2022.
