“As a councilman, a proud member of Jersey City’s dynamic Latino community, and a lifelong Jersey City resident who has given back to his hometown every day, I proudly stand behind Rob Menendez for reelection to the 8th Congressional seat in New Jersey,” Rivera said in a statement.
“It’s not just about supporting a candidate; it’s about recognizing dedication, integrity, and a genuine commitment to serving our community. Rob has proven himself time and again as a tireless advocate for our district. From championing infrastructure improvements to fighting against anything that tries to harm our district. Rob has demonstrated his dedication to the betterment of our neighborhoods.”
Rivera also backed Menendez in 2022, calling him a public servant who listens and acts for constituents, further stating that there shouldn’t be a push for a new voice in Washington, D.C. after just one term.
“It’s disappointing to see some individuals pushing for change after just one term. But let’s not forget, change for the sake of change isn’t progress. It’s crucial to distinguish between genuine concerns for improvement and self-serving political ambitions,” he continued.
“Rob isn’t beholden to any county line or political agenda as many may want you to believe. His focus remains steadfastly on serving the best interests of the residents he represents. He’s not just in it for himself; he’s in it for us – for our families, our businesses, and our future.”
For the time being, Rivera is just the third Jersey City council member to formally endorse, with Council President Joyce Watterman and Ward E Councilman James Solomon backing Bhalla.
However, Ward A Councilwoman Denise Ridley, Ward B Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, and Ward D Councilman Yousef Saleh have publicly expressed support for Menendez.
The primary is on June 4th, with first time candidate Kyle Jasey being the other Democrat on the ballot in the 8th District congressional race.
Councilman Rivera’s mother is not voting for him, this is an useless political endorsement. shsss
