While the June 7 primary election looks awfully uneventful in Hudson County, the Hudson County Democratic Organization decided that the filing deadline was the right time to endorse Hillary Clinton for President of the United States.

The Hudson County delegates for the Clinton campaign are Jersey City Councilwoman-at-Large Joyce Watterman and former Assemblywoman Joan Quigley.
As is often the case, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise kicked off the press conference by noting that New Jersey will likely play an active role in this election cycle, given the fact that U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) continues to give Clinton competition.
Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-32) said he is also looking forward to see New Jersey function as more than “just an ATM machine†in a presidential race, later telling Hudson County View Sanders’ policies just aren’t realistic enough.
Furthermore, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said that he expects New Jersey’s Democratic voter turnout in November to be led by Hudson County.
After taking a shot at Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, state Senator (D-32)/North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco said “it’s time for a woman to be president.â€
Locally, the party is supporting Frank Schillari for his third term as sheriff and Jersey City Ward F Councilwoman Diane Coleman as county register.
The HCDO also endorsed three sitting Congressmen in Albio Sires (D-8), Bill Pascrell (D-9) and Donald Payne, Jr. In the primary, Coleman will be challenged by Esmeralda Trinidad and Moses Salem, while Schillari squares off with Juan Espinal and Andrea Espinal (no relation).
