“We are incredibly grateful to the State of New Jersey and to the elected officials who championed this funding. This $850,000 allocation is not just a win for Hudson Pride — it’s a lifeline for the LGBTQ+ individuals and families we serve,” Hudson Pride Center Executive Director Elizabeth Schedl said in a statement.

“It will allow us to expand critical services, strengthen wellness and prevention programs, and ensure that our community has access to the resources, care, and dignity they deserve.”

The nonprofit says the funding will specifically be earmarked to increase access to mental health and HIV prevention services, and further develop inclusive support spaces for youth, elders, and transgender and nonbinary individuals.

“In a difficult year for human rights, this appropriation reflects New Jersey’s commitment to standing with our LGBTQ+ community in both words and action,” added state Senator Raj Mukherji.

“Hudson Pride Center provides essential services that save lives, strengthen families, and build healthier, safer, and more inclusive communities. I was proud to sponsor this line item and am grateful for the work Hudson Pride does for our residents.”

The organization also thanked state Senator Brian Stack (D-33), also the Union City mayor, and outgoing Assemblywoman Jessica Ramirez (D-32) for their assistance in the matter.

“This is more than a budget line — it’s recognition that our community matters. In a national landscape where LGBTQ+ people are being erased or vilified, New Jersey is showing the country what it means to lead with courage, compassion, and equity,” noted HPC Board Chair Ben Feldman.
