The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office will hold DWI checkpoints in Harrison and Union City before the end of the month as part of their ongoing effort to curtail impaired driving.

The checkpoint in Harrison will be in the area of Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard and Essex Street on Friday, August 22nd, while the one in Union City will be at the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 43rd Street on Friday, August 29th.
The primary purpose of the checkpoints are not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, according to Sheriff Frank Schillari.
During the checkpoint, officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
The sheriff’s office will also have extra patrols throughout the county in an effort to curb driving while intoxicated while also taking part in the Hudson County Vision Zero Task Force in order to make all of our roadways safer.
Schillari also recommends taking mass transit, a taxicab, car service, or having a designated driver, spending the night where the activity or party is held, and contacting law enforcement if an impaired driver is spotted on the road.
Furthermore, he advises to always wear a seat belt and never let someone who has been drinking to get behind the wheel.
