The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is investigating a fatal Jersey City fire that claimed one life last night at 1000 Newark Ave., authorities said.

Yesterday shortly after 6:00 p.m., the Jersey City Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in the vicinity of 1000 Newark Ave., the address for Adrian’s Truck Sales, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.
Upon arrival, members of the JCFD located and extinguished the fire. After completion of fire suppression activities, firefighters found an unidentified man in a fire damaged makeshift shelter. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:49 p.m.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force is actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire with assistance from the Jersey City Fire Department.
