The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded over $19 million to seven different Hudson County housing authorities, with Jersey City leading the way with an over $6.9 million grant.

In total, Hudson County was awarded $19,047,210, distributed among the following seven housing authorities:
Bayonne – $3,381,942; Guttenberg – $587,760; Harrison – $872,462; Hoboken – $3,885,367; Jersey City – $6,908,645; North Bergen – $2,250,170; and Union City – $1,160,864.
The grants announced today are provided through HUD’s Capital Fund Program, which offers annual funding to approximately 2,900 public housing authorities to build, repair, renovate, and/or modernize the public housing in their communities.
Housing authorities use the funding to complete large-scale improvements such as replacing roofs or making energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
To help provide residents with safe and sanitary housing, as well as respond to the growing demand for affordable rental housing, HUD uses the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD), a comprehensive strategy that complements the Capital Fund Program.
RAD offers a long-term solution to preserve and enhance the country’s affordable housing stock, including leveraging public and private funding to make critically needed improvements, according to HUD.
