The Hudson County government has announced that the Willow Avenue Bridge repairs in Weehawken will start tomorrow after a state of “severe disrepair” has led to safety concerns.

“As County Executive, I am focused on improving the safety and infrastructure of our roads. To that end, several of the joints on the Willow Ave. Bridge in Weehawken are in severe disrepair,” Craig Guy said in a statement.
“Currently, they may cause a hazard to motorists and bicyclists with loose concrete and exposed reinforcing bars. To help alleviate these issues, Hudson County has contracted Sparkwick Contracting Inc. to repair these joints on the Willow Ave. Bridge. Crews will be on site starting Tuesday, October 1; work should last about a week, weather permitting.”
He also indicated that this will be done daily during off-peak hours between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with lane shifts maintaining a single lane in each direction.
His statement today came after the City of Hoboken touched on the repairs in a Nixle alert on Friday afternoon.
“Drivers and riders of the NJ Transit 126 bus into New York City are encouraged to leave extra time or use alternative mass transit during work hours, as traffic is expected. Hudson County Sheriff’s Deputies will be on site to assist with traffic and pedestrian safety,” the city wrote.
“As a reminder, 15th Street between Bloomfield and Park Avenue remains closed due to NJDEP construction of the Rebuild by Design – Hudson River project to mitigate coastal storm flooding.”
The Rebuild by Design construction began two weeks ago, as HCV first reported.
Hope the fix includes repair and painting of the railings.
After a few decades of neglect they are looking ratchet.
