“Emily and Joe have been great friends to working people during their time on the City Council, and we are proud to support them and their new teammates in this election. Emily is a proven leader, which is what Hoboken needs right now in these troubled times,” HTC President Rich Maroko said in a statement.

Jabbour, a two-term councilwoman who was elected as part of Mayor Ravi Bhalla’s ticket in 2017 and 2021, is running alongside Councilman-at-Large Joe Quintero – who was part of the 2021 slate – Zoning Commissioner Steve Firestone, and Caitlin Layson.

“I am honored to have the support of the Hotel Trades Union and the hardworking members they represent across Hoboken. Hoboken’s service and hospitality workers are the backbone of our local economy, and I am committed to ensuring they have a strong voice and advocate in City Hall,” Jabbour said in a statement.

“As Mayor, I will continue to fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and affordable housing for all those who help make our city a vibrant and welcoming place.”

The HTC represents hotel, club, racetrack, and casino workers in a region which includes NYC, northern New Jersey, and upstate New York.

Jabbour is in a six-person contest to succeed Bhalla, who is all but assured to be an assemblyman in the 32nd Legislative District as the Democratic nominee, while there are a whopping 15 council-at-large candidates seeking three seats.

  1. Hey Rich, we hear all the platitudes but Emily Jabbour is no leader. She is a true follower of Ravi Bhalla, and Big Development in Hoboken.

We’re burnt out from overdevelopment here. Go build a mega hotel/casino in Jersey City.

    Thank you,
    Hoboken Residents

  2. Team Bhalla has said there was a master plan, something like 700+ pages at one point, though it was largely meaningless. It was all so transactional- and poorly negotiated. Most projects have run well over budget, we still don’t have a pool and taxes are surging.
While I am not in favor of the “Mayor for Life” arrangements that Sacco, Turner and Stack appear to have, there is something to be said for knowing what you are doing on day one. After eight years on the job, it feels like some of them still dont know how the math works.

  3. Emily Jabbour and Son Of a Felon Mike Russo are loved by carpet bagging unions who drive up housing costs, never hire local people and DRIVE here when they work here.

Sorry, Go to Newark, Jersey City or NYC. We dont need to Develop or die with leaders Tolerant of family corruption.

  4. Do any of these union/council endorsements actually mean anything IRL? Do union members actually pay attention and vote however they’re told? Is there actual data that shows how they vote?

I’ve been in a union and always just voted however I wanted, never paid attention if there was an endorsement. Just seems like a campaign PR thing.

  5. Right wing bloggers and local one trick ponies love Tiffanie Fisher and her Karenesque slate of whiners and nattering nabobs like David Mello, ( 12th Place as a Romano Sellout ) Liz Utrechho the Business Killer and Carter Craft, a car hating lunatic
The only supporters they have online is a weird pair of 50 year old INCELs who think they matter…
