Taquana Dixon, 25, of Hoboken, was charged with abandoning a domestic animal and failure as owner to provide a living animal necessary care, according to Police Det. Sgt. Joseph Leonard.

Back on Monday April 8th, officers responded to Columbus Park, located at 900 Clinton St.m on a report of a dog abandoned in the park.

Specifically, Officers Marc Lombardi and Harry Montalvo arrived to find a dog tied to a park bench and no owner within the vicinity. The dog was transported to headquarters and provided food while arrangements were made for continuing care.

The dog was described as a black pit bull that is approximately four to five months old. The dog was later taken and cared for by the Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, authorities said..

Officer Bernardo Munoz, who is the city’s Humane Law Enforcement Officer (HLEO), began to look into the matter after receiving the information from Lombardi.

After canvassing the area and following some leads, he was able to focus his attention on Dixon.

He was eventually able to gather enough evidence to charge the defendant, who was later given several summonses for the offenses, police said.
