The came following an investigation led by Det. Jesse Castellano, of the Hoboken PD’s Detective Bureau’s Major Crime Unit.

On Tuesday, January 13th, Hoboken police officers responded to a reported home invasion that occurred at a residence on Court Street. The victim reported that an unknown man had entered his apartment without permission and that a verbal altercation ensued.

The victim further reported that the suspect made threatening statements and appeared to reach toward his waistband before leaving the residence.

Detectives conducted an investigation that included reviewing multiple security videos from nearby residences, garages, and businesses, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses.

Based on the investigation, detectives identified the suspect and disseminated an All-Points Bulletin to law enforcement agencies.

On Thursday, January 15th, at approximately 6:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Court Street following a report of a suspicious male matching the BOLO description. Officers located the individual, later identified as Abdush-Shahududdin Sharif.

During the investigation, it was determined that Sharif was the individual depicted in the BOLO. He was subsequently placed under arrest.

A search incident to arrest resulted in the recovery of a box cutter and a loaded Ruger LC9s 9mm handgun.

Sharif was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where he was processed on first-degree home invasion, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

After processing, Sharif was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and was later remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

“This arrest shows the quick, coordinated work of our patrol officers and detectives, who identified and apprehended the perpetrator and took a loaded firearm off our streets,” Aguiar said in a statement.

“Our department takes all crime seriously, and we remain focused on keeping our community safe. I thank the officers and detectives involved for their professionalism, dedication, and hard work.”
