“We are thrilled that the World Cup is coming to our region and want to ensure that Hoboken plays an active role in celebrating this historic event,” Mayor Ravi Bhalla said in a statement.

“Our goal is to create opportunities for the entire community to come together, enjoy the excitement of the World Cup, and showcase Hoboken’s vibrant business community. I look forward to hearing from residents about what kind of events they’d like to see and how we can make this an unforgettable experience for our residents and visitors.”

With matches set to take place at the New York New Jersey (MetLife) Stadium, members of the city’s administration and Assemblyman John Allen’s (D-32) office recently met with the NY/ NJ FIFA Host Committee to showcase Hoboken as a location for tournament festivities that celebrate soccer’s global influence and bring the community together.

To further these discussions, the city is seeking direction from residents to ensure the events reflect the desires and interests of Hoboken residents.

Residents are invited to take the survey by visiting this link. The survey will remain open until 6 p.m. on November 1st.

“As a community filled with soccer-lovers and more than its fair share of soccer players of all ages, Hoboken is a great location for some of the key events leading up to the World Cup. This survey will enable Hoboken residents to shape this unique opportunity and experience,” added Allen.

The survey is designed to collect input on various event options including fan zones, cultural showcases, live screenings, youth soccer clinics, and more.

Back in July 2023, the city council voted to allow bars to open at 5 a.m. for the 2023 World Cup.

  1. What a crap survey:
    -It asks for your age…twice.
-You can select multiple options including “None of the Above” on at least one question.
-One of the options for preferred time for events is “During the night (10:00am to 12:00pm)”

    But does it even matter?

Ravi will just disregard the results, spin a self-serving press release, and ultimately do the bidding of whatever serves his personal best interests.

After all, he still has to run for the State Assembly job his buddy John Allen vacated for him. (John Allen also got him a job at his law firm, Schenck Price, Smith, and King).

      • People are woke to Ravi’s abuses. This is not news.

In Europe they set up outdoor areas for people to gather and watch the games. Seen this in World Cup 98 in Paris.

If Hoboken can obtain sponsorship, it should do the same. Pier A would be the ideal place and attract people to visit. Ravi will not consider such a great idea because that won’t drive traffic to John Allen’s bar.
