“Rafi Cordova is committed to public service for all the right reasons. I strongly endorse him for Hoboken City Council. Cohen noted Rafi Cordova’s work as chair of the Rent Leveling and Stabilization Board as experience that will serve him well on the City Council with tenant protections and other affordable housing issues as top challenges the City Council will need to address next year,” Cohen said in a statement.

“Rafi Cordova has put forward detailed, thoughtful and comprehensive plans to limit rent increases, to provide more affordable housing, to solve Hoboken’s rat problem, and to boost overall quality of life in the 1st Ward.”

Cohen was re-elected to his second term two weeks ago, defeating Liz Urtecho by a margin of about 56 percent to 44 percent.

Cordova, who also has the endorsements of Mayor Ravi Bhalla, Council President Emily Jabbour, Councilman-at-Large Joe Quintero, and Board of Commissioners Chair Anthony Romano (D-5) is taking on Paul Presinzano in the non-partisan December 5th race.

Presinzano won on November 7th by a margin of about 48 to 44 percent, but since he failed to reach 50 percent plus 1, the two candidates will go head-to-head at the ballot box again in 13 days (Leo Pellegrini came in a distant third place earlier this month).

Running as a tough critic of the administration, Presinzano has the formal backing of 4th Ward Councilman Ruben Ramos and 6th Ward Councilwoman Jen Giattino, with 2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher expected to follow suit in short order.
