Former West New York Mayor Felix Roque is offering his “full-throated endorsement” of Rob Menendez, Jr. for the 8th District congressional seat.

“Rob Menendez, Jr. is a talented young man who was born and raised in our community. I am certain that he will bring fresh ideas and new energy to our Congress. I am happy to offer him my full-throated endorsement,” Roque told HCV.

Roque served as the mayor of West New York between 2011 and 2019 and was a big fundraiser and supporter of U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Rob’s father.

Menendez, Jr., a Port Authority commissioner, is the leading candidate to replace U.S. Rep. Albio Sires (D-8), is serving his eighth term in the House and it looks like it will be his last one.

Sires has already called Menendez, Jr. the best candidate out there to succeed him, with state Senator/Union City Mayor Brian Stack (D-33) also backing him early.

Recently, Roque teased the possibility of rematching Gabriel Rodriguez in 2023 earlier this month and the odds of him running are much more likely without Sires in the picture.

Rodriguez, the godson of Sires, and his “New Beginnings West New York” slate swept in 2019, with Roque missing a seat on the board of commissioners by 674 votes.
