Construction building wall collapses from heavy winds in Bayonne

The wall of a building under construction in Bayonne collapsed from heavy winds, with gusts reaching upwards of 60 miles per hour, this morning, causing first responders to evacuate the surrounding area.

The building, located near the intersection of 14th Street and Broadway, started to fall at approximately 8:50 a.m., according to nearby nearby neighbor Bridget Peterson Schumacher – who lives in the area of 14th Street and Avenue E and provided the photo above.

She added that the wall collapse shook the homes in the surrounding area.

Other nearby residents, who asked not to be identified, said Bayonne firefighters evacuated those in the adjacent buildings as a precautionary measure.

The Bayonne Police and Fire Departments, as well as city spokesman Joe Ryan, were not immediately available for comment, but this story will be updated when more information is given.
