Bayonne police seeking couple who punched worker, stole $355 in goods from Stop & Shop

The Bayonne Police Department is searching for a couple who stole just over $355 in merchandise from the local Stop & Shop, who also physically assaulted an employee who attempted to stop the theft.

Thursday at approximately 9:22 p.m., a female employee of Stop & Shop, located at 1 Lefante Way, reported that after noticing several rejected credit card transactions by a male and female couple in the self-check-out area, according to Police Lt. Eric Amato.

The employe attempted to prevent them from leaving the store with $355.57 worth of merchandise.

At that time, the female punched the employee in the face and back and the couple fled the store with the merchandise. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, officials said.
