Criteria for applying for the program through the BEOF include income eligibility; being homeless or in immediate risk of becoming homeless; Hudson County residency; and either U.S, citizenship or legal immigration status in the United States, the organization announced last week.

Public housing tenants, as well as existing or long-term Section 8 tenants are excluded from the program, though first time Section 8 tenants may be considered for coverage of their security deposit.

Income eligibility is based on number of household members measured against gross household income. Some examples by number of people in household and maximum gross income to qualify are as follows:

• One person: $24,150
• Two people: $27,600
• Three people: $31,050
• Four people: $34,450
• Five people: $37,250
• Six people: $40,000.

For details on other household sizes, please contact the BEOF and please call Audrey or Maria at 201-437-7222 for an initial phone screening. However, applicants will not be qualified over the phone.

Appointments are required, no walk-ins will be accepted, and applicants will need to bring various forms of identification and financial documents to the interview.

Additionally, the BEOF will advise applicants about which documents are required. When you have all of the required documents, please call the BEOF at 201-437-7222 to schedule an appointment with the rental specialists.

All documents must be received within seven days to avoid losing eligibility for the
program.
