Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari and North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd are seeking the public’s help to the find the driver involved in yesterday’s fatal hit-and-run.

Early yesterday morning, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a fatal hit-and-run accident in the area of 7600 River Road, where a female pedestrian was killed by an SUV that jumped the curb and drove through a bus stop.
In a joint statement, the three aforementioned law enforcement officials released more details from the incident.
“The victim, identified as Luisa Valdes, 59, of Union City, was a pedestrian who worked at The Harborage – located in Palisades Medical Center. She was struck by a Hyundai Santa Fe believed to be driven by Olvy R. Torres, age 36, of New York,” said Suarez, Schillari and Downd.
“Torres fled the scene on foot without attempting to render any aid to the victim. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7 a.m.”
They also revealed that the joint investigation was performed by the North Bergen Police Department, Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor. The Maywood Police Department K-9 Unit, Secaucus Police Department and New York Police Department also assisted the investigation.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Torres for leaving the scene of a fatal accident resulting in death.
