Authorities investigating Jersey City hit-and-run that badly injured bicyclist

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and Jersey City Police Department are investigating a hit-and-run that badly injured a bicyclist early this morning.

Just before 5 a.m. this morning, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a bicyclist struck in the area of Garfield Avenue, Gates Avenue, and Seaview Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said in a statement.

Responding officers located a male bicyclist, later identified as a 21-year-old Bayonne resident, with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene.

The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he is in critical, but stable condition. During the preliminary investigation, a vehicle and person of interest were identified.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City PD are actively investigating this matter.
