UPDATED: Authorities investigating fatal stabbing on Dewey Avenue in West New York

Authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing on Dewey Avenue in West New York, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office announced early this morning.

“The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the West New York Police Department are responding to the fatal stabbing of an individual on Dewey Avenue in West New York. More information to follow,” the HCPO tweeted at 7:12 a.m.

At 2:10 p.m., Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez released further information.

This morning at approximately 5:15 a.m., the West New York Police Department responded to the area of 6414 Dewey Ave. in West New York on a report of an injured male, Suarez said in a statement.

The responding police officers found an unresponsive male victim at that location with an apparent stab wound to his upper torso.

The injured man, later identified as William Chipix Simon, 25, of West New York, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and no arrests have been made at this time.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the West New York Police Department.
