After public appeal, Hoboken police charge man stabbing suspect with criminal attempted murder

After a public appeal to identify three men wanted in connection to an early Sunday morning stabbing in Hoboken, police have charged a suspect with criminal attempted murder.

Andre Mateus, 26, of Lyndhurst, has been charged with criminal attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to Police Det. Lt. Danilo Cabrera.

Yesterday, Det. Michael Losurdo, with the assistances of Dets. Christine Collins, Bret Globke, and John Quinones, identified and charged Mateus for the stabbing of a 22-year-old North Bergen man in the area of 1st and Hudson Streets early Sunday morning.

Mateus was arrested in Lyndhurst yesterday with the help of the Lyndhurst Police Department. He was transported to Hoboken Police Department and issued the aforementioned charges.

They were then placed on a warrant before he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
