Two inmates at the Hudson County Correctional Facility died in one week after falling ill, according to County Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Caitlin Mota.

On Sunday, June 8th, just after 2:30 p.m., members of the Hudson County Correctional Facility were notified of a sick inmate. While being attended to, the 44-year-old man, of Linden, became unresponsive, Mota said following an inquiry from this reporter.
Officers and medical personnel immediately rendered aid to the inmate. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The inmate was being detained on charges out of Union County.
Then, on Sunday, June 15th, shortly after 7 a.m., members of the Hudson County Correctional Facility were notified of a sick inmate. While being attended to, the 31-year-old man, of Jersey City, became unresponsive.
Officers and medical personnel immediately rendered aid to the inmate. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
An email obtained by HCV identified this inmate as Quashawn Tatum. He was detained on murder, causing widespread injury, and weapon offenses charges and was admitted into the jail on May 24th.
In accordance with guidelines established by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, their office was immediately notified of each incident, Mota added.
Damn thats crazy for 2 people to die a week apart and one of them was from Union County so 🤷🏾 he either was under protective custody or had a co-defendant in Essex County Jail but under Union County charges also. Union County has a contract with Hudson County and I hope there family gets a autopsy to find out what they died from. My condolences to both of these men family.
It was jab booster week in County. It can be found in the autopsy if done properly but the odds are high against it.

2 relatively young men die in a week from who knows what in the same jail. I hope this reporter follows up. I know medical care is not great for inmates, but this seems very unusual. I hope John Heinis follows up on this.
It should be necessary to post what they were being charged with especially since they probably had not had a trial yet. Hopefully nobody at the county will be charged with anything for their deaths.
