Miguel Cortes, 37, of North Bergen is charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, Suarez said in a statement.
He was arrested on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, outside of his residence on Paterson Plank Road and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
The State has filed a motion for detention in this matter, which is tentatively scheduled for Monday, May 20th.
On Thursday, May 9th, the North Bergen Police Department received a tip of a possible murder-for-hire scheme. The investigation found the defendant offered money to another individual to murder a woman known to Cortes, though the intended victim was not injured.
Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Major Case Unit and the North Bergen Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
