Hudson County voter turnout is up significantly from the June 7th primary, an official said, also reminding voters that no identification is required at polling locations.

Approximately 15,000 vote-by-mail ballots, 13,000 people voted early, and around 42,000 registered voters have already hit the polls today as of about 2 p.m., according to Hudson County Board of Elections Clerk Michael Harper.
That would put the overall county turnout at around 65,000, or roughly 16.7 percent voter turnout. For the primary, turnout countywide ended up being under 10 percent, according to tallies from the Hudson County Clerk’s Office.
Harper also indicated that his office has encountered few issues thus far today, where the polls opened at 6 a.m. and will remain open through 8 p.m.
When questioned about instances where voters were asked to show ID, he said it is still happening due to the new poll books that allow driver’s licenses to be scanned. Despite that fact, he reminded voters that ID is not required to vote in New Jersey.
“It’s my most common voter complaint now because of the new poll book. It makes the poll worker’s life a lot easier to just scan the ID. But we have trained them over and over not to specifically ask for it,” he explained.
“If someone offers it to you, you can certainly use it. It’s something we’re certainly aware of and we’re working to correct it wherever possible.”
